Firm History and Philosophy:
Kaye, Rose & Partners, LLP, was established in 1991 when Larry Kaye, Brad Rose and several of their colleagues left Pillsbury, Madison & Sutro, one of the nation’s most prestigious firms, to open offices in Los Angeles and San Diego. The firm grew quickly, opened its San Francisco office in 1993, and over the years has added many talented and service-oriented professionals from other widely-known national and international law firms.
From our inception we have served a unique blend of clients, ranging from the world’s leading commercial shippers and cruise lines, to major filmmakers and production companies and large and small businesses of every variety. We have expertise in many different areas of law, including commercial and business litigation; contract negotiation and transactions; labor and employment matters; product liability; insurance coverage and defense; regulatory, administrative and entertainment law; alternative dispute resolution; white-collar criminal defense; aviation defense; customs and trades; and general maritime law.
Our longstanding team of attorneys, legal assistants, consultants and staff has included judges pro tem, mediators and arbitrators, law school professors and lecturers, engineers, nurses, and U.S. licensed ships’ captains. We are available to respond to clients’ needs around the clock and can mobilize quickly in emergencies arising throughout the Pacific Basin, Alaska, Mexico and the Caribbean. Each of our offices is strategically and conveniently located within the West Coast’s major transportation, commercial and shipping centers, enabling us to visit with our clients regularly and coordinate crisis response in many different regions.
The mission that inspired our success has never changed: Work closely as a team to efficiently deliver the highest quality legal services at fair rates. Each of our attorneys in every office is an integral member of the Kaye, Rose family. From our inception this team building approach, while rare in most law firms, has been a hallmark for the attorneys who join us. We work hard to facilitate integration between our offices, practice groups and support personnel. We avoid competition between our attorneys for clients or billable hours by rewarding all those who help serve the clients’ needs. This means a client calling one office can be easily networked with an attorney in another to take advantage of a particular expertise or insight.
We have an extensive database and archived files representing well over a century’s worth of combined experience in drafting documents and performing complex research. We also keep our clients closely informed of emerging legal and industry developments. For almost two decades we have published an award-winning quarterly newsletter, Cruise & Carrier Legal Update, and regularly organize enrichment seminars for maritime and shore side businesses, legislators, port personnel, interest groups and others.
